Sclerotium is one of the most effective and most expensive gums in cosmetics. It is prepared by fermentation and is suitable for vegan formulations.
Sclerotium builds high viscosity but a nice and smooth texture at low concentrations. It is used to:
- stabilize emulsions
- suspend particles (scrubs)
- stabilize low viscosity and sprayable emulsions
- create gel creams
- apply lipophilic ingredients in a hydrophilic base without any solubilizer or emulsifier
The prerequisite for a stable product in all of these cases is the proper dispersion and hydration of the gum and in this video I'm going to show you two methods to perform these steps.
The warm process provides a higher viscosity but even a cold process leads to stable and effective formulations. If you decide to go through the cold process, prolong the hydration time for a better effect
