So you're looking for a replacement for the unlucky "Kai Blendia"?

A few years ago (dear me, it was more than 3 years ago) I published a series of post with the title:

Kitchen meets cosmetic lab

and I tested a few affordable and available kitchen stirrers as an alternative to a professional lab stirrer or homogenizer.

"Kai Blendia" was the winner of that series of experiments. With an affordable price, nice and elegant design and a package consisting of a powder blender and a whisk it became everybody's darling and hundreds of skincare students, DIYers and start-up purchased this kitchen mixer as an affordable replacement for a lab homogenizer.

To everybody's disappointment Kai has stopped manufacturing of this amazing handy-dandy tool. As I announced the unhappy news in the skincare community panic broke out. People grazed internet to find a new or a used model wherever they could find one. Some have paid more for the shipping of a used instrument than the price of a new one. Some of my readers even ordered models directly from Japan, waited for months and paid astronomic sums and received products with a Japanese brochure and with the plug that didn't work in their region without an adaptor. Amazon sold more units than were available and then refund customers after months of waiting.

This was indeed a very unhappy incident and since then I continued searching for a reasonable and affordable replacement. I still believe that a professional overhead stirrer and a homogenizer are the essential "tools of the trade" for everybody who plans to "sell" skin and haircare products but I'm totally aware that as a skincare formulation student or as a DIYer you'll need an affordable replacement.

Anyway, my dear friend Heike Käser from Olionatura recommended a new replacement about a year ago and I forwarded her recommendation on our Facebook page without having tested the mixer. Since I have received many questions and inquiries during the last months, I finally decided to order this mixer and test it (I really didn't need another mixer in my lab) for you.

This video summarizes my first impression and is a direct comparison between the Blendia and the dynamix (although any comparison is pretty much useless because Blendia is no more available).

In the following posts I'm going to use the dynamix in more experiments and will share the results with you.

Please keep in mind that there are various stirring attachments available and you need the turbo or emulsification attachment if you are looking for an affordable replacement for a homogenizer.
