This is a luxurious and exquisite product and a perfect gift for bath lovers. A simple and fast procedure with an excellent result.
The cream contains no water and no preservative. However, keep in mind that it is more a butter from a physical point of view and the consistency depends on the temperature. It shouldn't be kept in the fridge, but should be stored under 25 degrees Celsius.
I've applied Babassu oil and the Omega-3 rich perilla seed oil for their excellent skin care functions. Lipophilic extracts of Aloe and Calendula are added for their moisturizing and anti-inflammatory functions. And I've applied warming and uplifting grapefruit & ginger essential oils.
First we'll make the base whipped cream. In a complementary part, and after the cream is ready to be poured (rather spooned) in jars, I've added our "red wine" soap noodles both for a beautiful color contrast between the soap noodles and the white/beige cream and for the skin care benefits of the soap during the bath. One of my friends who is a bath lover even told me she has played with the soap noodles in the bath till they were dissolved and disappeared in water and that was an additional fun factor. You may simply make the cream and do not any soap to it.
Before we start I want to recommend you to read our older posts about general information regarding hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab, introduction to Basic equipments and utensils for a cosmetic lab.
For this project (500 gr whipped bath cream) you'll need:
10,0% Lysolecithin (50,0 gr)
this is both an emollient and an emulsifier to break the oil droplets in water, provide a uniform distribution of the cream and reduce Fat-residues in the bath area
1,0% lipophilic Aloe extract (or any other suitable lypophilic extract) (5,0 gr)
1,0% lipophilic Calendula extract or maceration in sunflower oil (5,0 gr)
0,5% alpha-Tocopherol (2,5 gr)
you'll need as well
a water bath to melt the butters
a suitable beaker or a pyrex jar (wide mouthed)
(optional) small glass beakers to premix and add other ingredients
(optional) a glass rod, spatula or any other suitable spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients
an electric hand whisk or a stand whisk
Enough space in the fridge (this is the most important part)
Here we go:
One: in a suitable beaker or jug (wide mouted) weigh shea butter and babassu oil. Depending on the room temperature in your area, babassu oil might be a solid fat, a soft butter or a liquid oil (in that case you obviously do not need to melt it). Put the jar ina water bath at a max. temperature of 55 degrees Celsius till the butter and babassu oil melt.
Two: After the butter is melted, stop heating and add all other ingredients (except the soap and the essential oils) under stirring, you still stir with hand.
Three: If you have a modern kitchen aid with a stand whisk you may start the whisk and allow the mixture to cool. After the mixture has reached a temperature of about 35, add the essential oils and continue whisking.
If you're applying a hand whisk, as we did, put the mixture in fridge to cool down. This may take up to an hour depending on your batch. Stir the mixture shortly every now and then (with hand) and put it back into the fridge. At temperatures around 35 add the essential oils.
As the mixture starts to solidify, start the hand whisk and stir until you have a fluffy foam like in the following picture
At this point, your whipped cream is finished and you can fill in jars.
If you're going to add soap noodles:
add the noodles into the jar. From now on, stir only for a short time with hand (no whisk anymore only spatula) to distribute the soap evenly.
Voila, your soapy whipped cream is finished and is ready to be filled in jars.
Add 1-2 table spoons per bath and enjoy the luxurious feel and the warming scents.
