Now it's time to prepare the facial mist. It is prepared based on the same concept, moisturizing and balancing sensitive and inflamed skin. Once should apply the mist at least twice a day after each cleansing.
Before we start: please have a look at our previous posts about hygienic manufacturing practice in a cosmetic lab and basic equipments for a cosmetic lab.
For this project (100 gr of facial mist) you'll need:
46,0% freshly boiled distilled water (to balance 100%- 54,0 gr)
25,0% Witch hazel hydrolat (25,0 gr)
15,0% cornflower hydrolat(15,0 gr)
1,0% hydroglyceric aloe extract (1,0 gr)
5,0% solubilizer: Symbio®solv XC (5,0 gr) (this is to solubilize patchouli oil)
1,0% preservative: Euxyl® PE9010 (1,0 gr)
(occasionally) 1-2 drops of lactic acid
You'll need as well:
2 glass beakers (one 25 or 50 ml and one 250 ml) or other suitable container for mixing
Disclaimer - In my case, my mist had a pH of 5,5 without addition of any lactic acid. You should however check the pH of your product. The pH of a 10% solution (10 gr mist diluted with 90 gr distilled water) should be between 4,5-5,5 for a physiologically acceptable pH. Very probably you won't need any lactic acid but in case you have a higher pH value you should add lactic acid (1-2 drops) to adjust the pH.
Here we go:
One: in a small beaker mix the solubilizer (Symbio®solv XC), patchouli essential oil and preservative (Euxyl® PE9010)
Two: in a 250 ml beaker mix all other ingredients (except lactic acid). The mixture might be opaque but don't worry.
Three: slowly add the essential oil-solubilizer-preservative mixture (step 1) to the rest of the ingredients (step 2). The mixture would become clear in a few minutes.
Four: Measure the pH of with an indicator stick
or with an electrode attached to a pH-meter. If you're applying a pH-meter dilute 10 gr of the solution with 90 gr of distilled water. (10% dilution)
The pH should be between 4,5-5,5. If you have a higher pH value, adjust the pH with 1-2 drops of lactic acid (read disclaimer 2)
Five: Fill in a spray bottle and let the essential oil to be fixed in the matrix for at least 24 hours before application.
