In our preparation for cold and dry months of the year we have prepared this yummy green
pistachio butter.
Pistachio oil (PISTACIA VERA SEED OIL) is an amazing skin care oil with increasing popularity. Pistachio was grown originally exclusively in south-eastern Iran. As an Iranian native I have special emotional connection to pistachio and everything related to it. Later(since about 40 years ago) expatriated Iranians in California grew pistachio and Californian pistachio (which is from appearance, taste and quality not identical to the Iranian) is now better known in Europe than the original Iranian. Anyway, Pistachio oil, green in color and with an amazing scent of roasted pistachio is not only an excellent culinary oil for salads and cold meal, it is as well a nourishing emollient oil both for dry and greasy skin and hair. It is found that it has a kind of sebum regulating and tonifying effect and it is now being applied in skin care for blemished skin and skin suffering under acne.
In this butter and because of my personal love to pistachio oil, avocado oil and hemp seed oil, we've combined all these amazing oils into a nourishing and skin pampering butter with a very silky texture and feel. We've applied Lime essential oil for its green and uplifting scent. You can however prepare the butter without any essential oil or fragrance oil. The inherent scent of the plant oils alone is very pleasant on itself. It's up to you to apply lime essential oil or any other essential or fragrance oil or prepare the butter without any of them.
In this tutorial, we suppose you have a basic knowledge about melting butters and mixing ingredients. We focus on the recipe and have no photos for you. Keep in mind: Never heat the ingredients directly, apply a water bath or a double boiler.
Before we start I want to recommend you to read our older posts and general information regarding hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab and introduction to Basic equipment and utensil for a cosmetic lab.
For this project (100 gr pistachio butter) you'll need:
you'll need as well:
Beakers to melt and mix the ingredients
a water bath to melt the butters
suitable jars to fill the butter
Here we go:
One: In a glass beaker melt all solid butters together (shea butter, babassu oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil) in a double boiler or water bath. (Water temperature should be between 55-60 degrees centigrade)
Two: When the butters are melted stop heating and add all other ingredients (except the essential oil) and mix gently
Three: At about 35 degrees centigrade add the fragrance oil and mix
Four: for small batches, pour the butter into the jar and continue stirring as the butter cools down. As the butter starts to solidify bring it into the fridge or let it solidify at room temperature.
For larger batches continue stirring the melted butter in the original container, as it starts to solidify pour it into jars and bring the jars into fridge or let them cool down at room temperature.
Voila, you're down.
There is no need to keep the butter in the fridge, but keep in mind that the consistency depends on the ambient temperature.
