I have made x different shower oils in the past and have tried all possible emulsifiers to make them less sticky and more pleasant (even PEG-containing emulsifiers). But this one, made with the amazing new emulsifier we've been working on for more than 1 year is absolutely the best one I have ever made and used.
For the whole last 14 months we've been trying different recipes, testing stability playing with different factors to get the heck out of this emulsifier and most importantly:
to find a way for artisan manufacturer to work with it without complicated mixers
And now I'm thrilled to share with you not only my own experiments, but the experience of our readers who have, according to their own contribution, left their samples of this emulsifier on the shelf because their first experiments were a failure.
Just after reading my how-to posts, they're gone back to the emulsifier and have made some amazingly attractive and successful products which I'm going to share with you in our upcoming posts. (I've already shared them on Facebook and on our telegram channel).
Anyway, I've prepared a refreshing shower oil with two of my favourite oils: avocado oil and acai berry oil. We've used peppermint essential oil and lime essential oil and the blend is such a refreshing, juicy blend that makes you salivate.
A very easy recipe if you follow the game rules. To learn more about self-emulsifying oleo gels click here to read our previous post.
Formulation:
Phase A:
6.0% Dermofeel G5O
45% Glycerine 99,5%
Phase B:
20.0% native acai berry oil
24.9% organic unrefined avocado oil
2.0% Witch hazel extract in sunflower oil
0.5% Tocopherol
0.1% Rosemary CO2 extract
1.0% organic peppermint EO
0.5% organic lime EO
Procedure:
1- Blend glycerine and Dermofeel G5O in a beaker. Dermofeel G5O is a thick paste @ room temeprature but blends easily with glycerine. However if your lab is very cold, you may need to gently heat the blend in a water bath to accelerate the blending.
2- In another beaker, blend all ingredients of your oil phase.
3- Slowly and in small aliquotes (this is the most important step) add the oil phase to the glycerine-emulsifier phase. Blend completely before adding the next aliquote. Have patience and give the oleogel enough time to form. If you add the ingredients too fast, you'll fail at the end without having any real oleogel structure.
4- At the end of the addition, you'll have a green pourable oil which easily turns milky by adding water. Stop here and fill the shower oil into a suitable bottle if you want. We can however, improve the transparency of the shower oil by adding a few drops of water
5- As you see in the left photo above, by adding water, the surface of the oil turns white, this disappears however by gentle blending.
Be careful not to overdose water
6- By adding a few drops of water, the oil becomes more transparent but this step need care and patience. Here you can see the transparency of the final oil after adding about 0.5% water (drop by drop)
Enjoy making and using this shower oil. Looking forward to seeing your creations on our facebook page. Your photos really inspire other members and readers. And don't hesitate to send me your comments, questions and feedback.
BeHappy and have fun
