Always wanted to prepare your own facial tonic? We have simple instructions for you..
Here is a simple instruction for preparing a mild and moisturizing tonic. This tonic is alcohol free and we've applied a PEG-free solubilizer to incorporate the essential oils into water. We've applied Geranium floral water, Geranium and Ylang-Ylang essential oils for their excellent mildness and skin caring functions. Silk protein is applied as a moisturizing and skin conditioning agent and Hyaluron as an excellent moisturizing and anti-aging agent.
Are you ready?
Before starting please review our older post about general hygienic manufacturing practice in a cosmetic lab and basic equipments for a cosmetic lab.
For this project (100 gr Geranium facial tonic) you need:
0,05% Hyaluron, high MW [sodium salt of hyaluronic acid with a high molecular weight] (0,05 gr)
20,0% Geranium hydrosol (20,0 gr)
5,0% PEG-free solubilizer, Symbio® solv XC (5,0 gr)
0,3% Essential oil of Geranium (0,2 gr)
0,2% Essential oil of Ylang-Ylang (0,1 gr)
1,0 % Euxyl® K903 (broad spectrum preservative) (1,0 gr)
Probably (1-2 drops) Lactic acid to adjust pH
boiled distilled water (to balance 100%, ca 67 gr)
additionally you may need:
2 glass beakers (50 and 250 ml) or other suitable containers for mixing
pH indicator paper or a pH electrode for reading pH
Glass rods or other suitable instruments for mixing
a suitable bottle for filling, we recommend our pump spray bottle
Instruction:
One: Weight about 50 gr water in a 250 ml glass beaker, start stirring under high shear and slowly add hyaluron. It may take a little time till hyaluron disperses.
Two: After hyaluron is completely dissolved, add glycerin, panthenol, geranium floral water, silk protein and the remaining water. Stir to a homogeneous liquid. This is phase A
Three: Meanwhile prepare phase B:Mix the solubilizer Symbio® Solv XC, and essential oils of Geranium and Ylang-Ylang together with the preservative in a small beaker. The mixture has a yellow color because of Symbio® Solv XC.
Four: Add phase B to A and continue stirring until the mixture is homogeneous.
Five: Control the pH with indicator paper or an electrode. In our case the original pH was aroung 5,5 without any adjustment. You may adjust the pH if necessary around 5,0-5,5 with a few drops of lactic acid.
Six: Fill the tonic in a suitable bottle. You are free to select any bottle, however we recommend using a pump spray for an economical and more effective application of the tonic.
