Tomati is not only an amazing culinary vegetable (botanically it is a fruit and no vegetable), it is a very popular skin and hair care ingredient. Consisting of more than 90% water, it is a rich source of water, micronutrients, minerals, polyphenols and carotenoids.
In hair and skin care tomato extracts are applied for their anti-oxidant, sebum regulation and hydrating functions. The taste of tomatos depends on the volatile materials as well as the balance between the sugars and acids. More than 20 chemicals were detected to be responsible for the flavor of tomato. The red color comes from lycopene, a carotenoid that is formed during the ripening of green tomato. Tomato leaves are extremely poisonous and are used in garden to repel insects and parasites, The leaf extract (extremely poisonous) has some applications as an insect-repellant.
