Shower jellies belong to the "ice cream" category of cosmetic products. These are products that everybody could survive without (like ice cream) but everybody loves and is ready to pay for it (like ice cream). They just make our everyday life more fun, diversified and tolerable.
Shower jellies are not amazing products as an add-on to your product portfolio (if you are a skincare entrepreneur), they are fun products to make with kids (if you offer workshops or are just a hobbyist having fun making products) or an excellent hand-made gift.
Anyway our talented Teresa from the Balm Kitchen was so generous to share another amazing tutorial with us.
This is such a yummy product loaded with antioxidants of matcha and moisturizing ingredients.
Here is the recipe:
Matcha infusion 60.9%
Cucumber extract 2%
Symbiosolv CLEAR 6% (you can use symbiosolv XC as well)
Jasmine absolute 3% in jojoba oil 1%
Xanthum gum 0.6%
Agar agar powder 0.9%
Glycerine 5%
Decyl glucoside 10%
Disodium/Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate 10%
Sodium phytate 0.1%
Panthenl 0.5%
Dermofeel 1388 eco 2.5%
Euxyl K903 0.5%
Lactic acid to adjust pH
Procedure:
1- Prepare your matcha infusion
2- Blend the gums and glycerin and disperse it in the warm infusion. (Agar agar needs heat for dispersion and dissolution, if you're using gums that do not necessarily ned heat you can postpone this step after adding surfactants). Gently stir the blend as it cools down
3- Add cucumber extract, sodium phytete and panthenol to the infusion and gently blend.
4- Blend jasmine absolute, Euxyl and symbiosolv in a small beaker. Slowly add this blend to the infusion in part [2]
5- Gently add the surfactants (decyl glucoside and disodium/sodium cocoyl glutamate) to the blend in part [3]. A little bit agitation creates some fun bubbles but try to avoid excessive foam.
6- Finally add Dermofeel 1388 eco and blend.
7- Your pH should be alkaline (because of the surfactants). Adjust the pH to 5.0-5.5 by adding lactic acid. Prepare a 10% solution of the jelly and either measure the pH with pH stripes or with a pH- electrode (if you want to be more precise and have a pH-meter in your lab).
8- Fill the jelly in a pretty container and enjoy the luxurious feel.
Skin feel: Really lovely shower jellies and the aroma is so lovely! Smells just like Jasmine Green Tea! It's actually quite a fun project to make.
