After all the warm feed backs and comments about my gel-to-milk posts and amazing likes for Teresa's photo after they appeared on our Facebook page, Teresa from the Balm Kitchen generously shared her formulation with us.
She has prepared 3 yummy cleansing oleogels with one basic recipe and a small tweak in them. They all look like apricot jelly and are loaded with amazing ingredients such as apricot kernel oil, camellia oil and Seabuckthorn berries CO2 extract and of course the key to the emulsifying is the 2natural" emulsifier, Dermofeel ® G5 O .
Teresa has kept to the KISS principle and instead of haphazardly blending all oils and essential oils in her cabinet, has methodically blended just a few amazing ingredients. She has just varied the concentration of the glycerine to vary the viscosity of the products and as you can see here the viscosities vary between a jelly like gel to a pourable oil, all of them turning to a milky emulsion by coming into contact with water.
Which one you prefer to make depends on your concept, your packaging material and your application preferences. Try all of them and test the efficacy, ease of application or different aspects of packaging.
Here are the formulations:
First sample:
10% Glycerine
50% Apricot kernel oil
32.1% Camellia oil
1% Seabuckthorn berries CO2 extract
0.5% Vitamin E
0.1% Rosemary CO2 extract
0.3% Lavender essential oil
Second sample:
30% Glycerine
40% Apricot kernel oil
22.1% Camellia oil
1% Seabuckthorn berries CO2 extract
0.5% Vitamin E
0.1% Rosemary CO2 extract
0.3% Lavender essential oil
Third sample:
50% Glycerine
30% Apricot kernel oil
12.1% Camellia oil
1% Seabuckthorn berries CO2 extract
0.5% Vitamin E
0.1% Rosemary CO2 extract
0.3% Lavender essential oil
As you see,
Dermofeel ® G5 O concentration is kept the same in all variations and just by varying glycerin:oil ratio and keeping all the rest the same, the consistency varies between a gel to an oil.
Instruction:
1- Blend glycerin and
Dermofeel ® G5 O in a beaker. They easily blend with a glass spatula. If you lab has arctic temperature and
Dermofeel ® G5 O is hard to manage you can heat it gently in a water bath for a short while but usually it is not necessary.
2- Blend all other ingredients in another beaker.
3- Very slowly and in small aliquots add the oil blend to the glycerin-
Dermofeel ® G5 O blend. Stir after each addition and before you add the next aliquot. Stir as gently as possible if you want to avoid lots of air bubbles.
4- After you've added all the oil fill in a suitable container. The viscosity doesn't change over time but most of the air bubbles disappear and the oil becomes more transparent.
Now it's your turn. Chose whatever oil or infusion you like and blend your own cleansing oil or gel.
