Our amazing Teresa from Balm Kitchen was so generous to share abother recipe and procedure with you. These pieces look so yummy it is almost a pity to apply them in the bathroom.
The procedure is quite easy if you know the principles of making scrubs and working with Dermofeel G5O .
This is her recipe:
66.4% Cocoa butter
20% Ground walnut shells
4% Apricot kernel oil
2% Rice bran oil
0.5% Vitamin E
0.1% Rosemary CO2 extract
1% Sweet orange EO
You don't have to use any preservatives if you're making small pieces of scrub which are used in 1-2 applications. Teresa who is a researcher and tutor added the preservative just to test the stability of the product over a long period.
Procedure:
1- Heat cocoa butter and Dermofeel G5 O in a water bath till cocoa butter melts and blends with Dermofeel G5 O.
2- Stop heating and add apricot kernel oil, rice bran oil, vitamin E and Rosemary CO2 extract.
3- Start cooling while stirring. You can do it by putting your beaker in a cold water bath or by putting the beaker in the fridge and then stirring it in 10 minute intervals.
4- As the butter starts making a trace and becomes turbid, add the essential oils and the walnut shell powder.
5- Pour into suitable moulds and bring the moulds into teh fridge. Let them rest in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
6- Demould and wrap them in wax paper or a jar.
Keep in mind that these scrubs have a butter nature and would melt upon exposure to heat. They would withstand a normal bathroom temperature and shouldn't necessarily be stored in the fridge unless you're leaving in tropical weather conditions.
Now it's your turn. Chose whatever oil or infusions you like and blend your own scrub. You can replace the walnut shell with other suitable exfoliants as well.
