You name it, we do it.
Since you're all excitement about the micellar waters and are asking questions and doing experiments, I wanted to share another easy formulation with you.
When you know the basics of micellar water the rest is no rocket science and you can create tens of fantastic micellar waters by varying your hydrosols and extracts.
If you've missed our previous posts about micellar waters please go and have a look at them before proceeding with this tutorial:
For this tutorial I've focused on two eye-friendly ingredients that are extremely skin friendly and are specially recommended for eye-area products. Both cornflower (centaurea cyanus) and eyebright (euphrasia officinalis) have anti-inflammatory, astringent, ophthalmic and tonifying properties and are used in professional and traditional remedies to cleanse and rinse the eyes and to linder eye discomforts.
As always before we start I want to recommend you to read our older posts: hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab and introduction to Basic equipments and utensils for a cosmetic lab.
Ingredients
Phase A:
65.8% Eye-bright and cornflower infusion
20.0% Organic Cornflower hydrosol
2.0% Cocamidopropyl betaine
2.0% Plant based and organic pentylene glycol
2.0% Hydroglyceric extract of eyebright
2.0% Hydroglyceric extract of jiaogulan
2.0% Sodium lactate
0.5% Panthenol
0.1% Allantoin
0.1% Dermofeel PA-3
Phase B
3.5% Dermosoft 1388 eco
Lactic acid 80% a few drops to adjust the pH
Procedure:
1- Blend all ingredients in phase A at room temperature.
2- Add the preservative Dermosoft 1388 eco and adjust the pH with lactic acid between 5.2-5.5.
3- Take your dipslide sample and fill in a suitable container. (Take samples for the stability check at least @ 4, 25, 40 oC).
Notes:
- Cornflower contains: Anthocyanins, mucillage, alkaloids, glycosides and salicylic acid. Eyebright contains glycosides and alkaloids. Both herbs can drain water from under-eye area and reduce the puffiness in addition to cleansing and comforting stressed eyes.
- I've used freshly prepared infusion of eyebright and cornflower in hot water (after filtration I've cooled the infusion in fridge for half an hour). The infusion was not preserved but the extracts and hydrosol were preserved. When using preserved ingredients, consider the legal/dermal limitations of the overall preservative ingredients. The totall concentration of the preservative ingredients (benzoic acid for instance) in the final product shall not exceed the max. allowed dosage in your country/area
