Teresa from the Balm kitchen was so kind to share another tutorial with us.
Teresa is located in hot and humid Singapore and she came up with this very light emulsion which performs perfectly in that weather. It supplies the skin with nourishing oils without any heavy, oily or sticky skin feel which is the case when you're in a tropical climate.
For this recipe, she has made a hot-hot-cold procedure and heated a part of the water phase and the oil phase and adding the rest of the water phase at room temperature.
Let's see what she's done.
Formulation
Procedure:
1- Heat phase A and B separately in a water bath @ 70-75 oC
2- Blend phase A completely to a milk like texture. There should be no graininess and no clumps.
3- When both phases are homogenous stop heating and slowly add phase B to A under stirring
4-Vontinue stirring. Add phase C (which you've previously blended @RT) in small aliquotes.
5- Homogenize for 1-4 minutes depending on your homogenizer and batch size
6- Continue gentle stirring as the emulsion cools down
7- The emulsion would be slightly acidic, add sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH between 5.0-5.5. Add the essential oil blend and preservative and blend for a while.
8- Take your micro kit sample and fill in a suitable bottle.
