I usually don't make any oil serums and prefer to test each oil individually on my skin. I blend a plant oil with some natural tocopherol (vitamin E) and use it for a while before moving to the next oil. This time however, I made a serum as a special gift and couldn't resist sharing the formulation with you.
This is quite in contrast to my usual KISS formulations and you can call it a cocktail of plant oils and extracts but I'm quite satisfied with the outcome, well almost quite satisfied. The oil blend masks the scent of my essential oils. I was very thoughtful with the EOs and used a rather low concentration. If I were to made this serum again, I would increase the concentration of bergamot and frankincense just a little bit. Feel free to swap the essential oils with your favourite ones but just consider the dermal limits and the possibility of phototoxicity if you make a day serum.
The formulation and procedure are quite simple. Blend all ingredients at room temperature and that's it. I find a magnetic stirrer quite handy and effective for such formulations. Specially in this case, because I'm using provitamin D3 in the formulation (7-dehydrocholesterol) which is a powder and needs to be dissolved in oil. It takes a little bit time @RT and is much easier if you blend all ingredients in a beaker and let the magnetic stirrer do the job.
7-dehydrocholesterol is a precursor of vitamin D3 and would be metabolized to vit D3 in body. It has
- Improving barrier function
- Protecting against UV damages and senescence
- Stimulating natural antimicrobial peptides
properties.
