Halloween is not halloween if we don't create some special products in our lab. This year We've created some cute self-emulsifying cleansing balms (last tutorial) and some self-emulsifying bath melts (this tutorial) using our newly arrived polyglyceryl-4 oleate.
This is a waterless product and hence self-preserving.
Feel free to create this balm in any form you like (not necessarily halloween). You can add different oils and extracts for different colours and you can even (depending on your mold use different layers with different colours).
Let's jump to the formulation and procedure. I'm sharing the recipe for the single coloured melt here.
Formulation:
Phase A |
|
Cocoa butter |
50,0% |
Myrica fruit wax |
12,0% |
Babassu oil |
9,0% |
Pequi fruit oil |
5,9% |
Sunflower lecithin |
0,5% |
Phase B |
|
Polyglyceryl-4 oleate |
15,0% |
Sea buckthorn CO2 extract |
2,0% |
Natural tocopherols |
0,5% |
Rosemary CO2 extract |
0,1% |
Grapefruit essential oil |
4,0% |
Petitgrain essential oil |
1,0% |
Procedure:
1- Blend phase A and B in different beakers. Phase A should be in a heat proof beaker.
2- Heat phase A in a water bath @ 65-70 oC.
3- After phase A is melted completely stop heating. Add phase B and blend
4- Pour into mold cavities and put the mold in the fridge for a few hours (we let is stay there overnight).
5- Remove from the mold and pack in wax paper.
