You can almost say I'm obsessed with scrubs. I love using scrubs, all of them, water based, oil based, hybrid, creams etc.
For today's tutorial, I'm sharing a shower bar & scrub with volcanic sand. We prepared an evergreen version (you can sell them all year around) and a special Halloween version (with video tutorial).

Procedure:
1- Blend phase A in a heat proof beaker (if you let it stand @RT for 1-2 hours the next step would be easier)
2- Blend phase B in another heat proof beaker
3- Heat phase A and B in a water bath at around 80-85 oC
4- When both phase A and B are ready (your beakers are still in the water bath) slowly add phase B to phase A and blend gently (you want to avoid excessive foam).
5- Remove the beaker from the bath. Now add phase D.
6- Add phase C and blend. The blend might clump at first but don't worry, continue stirring till you reach a uniform thick paste. You can use your kai blendia for this step.
7- Before adding the exfoliant, take a sample for pH measurement. You don't need to exactly measure it now. Just put aside about 5-10 gr.
8- Add the exfoliant. Blend completely and pour the blend into your mould cavities. You can use all the moulds you use for M&P soap.
9- The top of the mould (which is the bottom of the bar) might have some air bubbles. Tap your mould on the counter to bring all bubbles to the surface.
10- Put the mould in the fridge (we let it rest overnight)
11- Go back to your pH sample. Prepare a 10% dilution (take 5 gr and add 45 gr distilled water). Measure the pH (we used 1,2% lactic acid for pH adjustment. The final pH was 5,17). Depending on the ingredients you use, you may need more or less lactic acid. Prepare a small trial batch to find out how much lactic acid you'll need for pH adjustment)
Note the pH for your next batch. In ideal case, it should be between 4,5-5,5. If it is too acidic use less lactic acid for your next batch. If it is higher than 5,5 use slightly more lactic acid for your next batch.
12- After at least 3 hours (up to 24 hrs) remove the mold from the fridge and remove the pieces from cavities.
Enjoy the lush foam and the gentle exfoliating and of course the cute appearance.
