It's a pity hair toner is not quite as popular as skin toner. Maybe the consumer is not well informed about the benefits and properties and this is a failure of the marketing.
Keep in mind that even people who do not pay huge attention to their skin (do not pay much, use mainstream products or hardly use any products), pay much more attention to their hair and invest more for hair care than skin care.
Hair toner can not only sooth and comfort the scalp, it can stimulate circulation (reduce hair loss), refresh the hair in between washing cycles and even style the hair depending on the ingredients you use.
In this formulation, I have blended some ordinary ingredients to create an outstanding product. I use the prebiotic to support the scalp microbiome which will be disturbed by all the washing and drying with hot air. Rosemary hydrosol and ginger essential oil are used to stimulate circulation and sooth the scalp and I use caffeine to reduce hair loss and stimulate hair growth. Just a couple of weeks ago an amazing article was published in the international journal of cosmetic science about the role of phytochemicals in reducing hair loss symptoms and both rosemary and caffein were among the investigated ingredients with positive effect. Read this blog post for more information.
Anyway, let's dive into the formulation and manufacturing process which is quite straightforward (except for the use of the solubilizer and pH adjustment which I know are still painful for some of you)

Procedure:
1- Blend all the ingredients of phase A and B in separate beakers. The powders in phase A easily dissolve in the hydrosols. A magnetic stirrer makes everything easier but is not necessary.
2- Slowly add phase B to phase A. A temporary cloudiness might happen but it shall disappear in a few minutes.
3- Before adding the preservative, we shall make sure the pH is at least 5,0. In our case, it was 4,77 and we increased the pH with arginin (the pure powder easily dissolves in the product) to 5,13. (make 10% dilutions for pH measurement).
4- add the preservatives. I know that my preservative system slightly increases the pH
5- Make another 10% dilution and measure the pH. The final pH should be between 5,2-5,5. If the pH is higher, add lactic acid to reduce it to the range. In our case, it was 5,38
6- Take your micro kit and stability samples and fill the rest in a suitable container.
One more thing about this formulation
I've used 5% skin prebiotic in this formulation. The sugar content in this ingredient performs as a kind of hair fixing. It tames short hair and you do not need any hair mousse or other hair styling product. For long hair, the effect is not as good as for short hair and the feel is a little bit sticky. If you prepare this toner for long hair reduce the prebiotic content to 1-3%.
In this video, I show you how to add the solubilizer and how to adjust the pH.
