This is a KISS scrub formulation combining Sapogel Q and our cranberry seed exfoliant. The scrub is self-emulsifying and turns to milk by adding water and is easily rinsed-off leaving a silky skin feel. Since there is no water in the formulation, it is self-preserving and doesn't need any preservative.
It is however important to protect the product against water. This is because:
1- adding water to the product causes a turbidity (going from gel-to-milk) and you want this effect to happen as the consumer rinses the product during application
2- By adding water to the product, it is not self-preserving anymore and you may need to add a preservative system to protect the product against contamination
3- Adding water (even accidental addition of a few drops) to an oil system causes the hydrolytic rancidity of the oils and reduces the shelf-life of the product
The best way to pack such a product is by using a tube bottle or a heat-sealable tube. In this way you eliminate any chances of accidental adding water by the consumer during application.
If you have not yet worked with Sapogel Q please go back and read this blog post before proceeding.
Formulation:
Procedure:
1- Blend phases A and B in separate beakers.
2- Slowly and in small aliquotes add phase B to A. Stir completely before adding the next portion. This is a time consuming process but is necessary for the formation of a stable oleogel
3- When all of phase B is added to A and a gel is formed, add the exfoliant little by little.
4- Take your stability samples and fill the rest in a suitable
container
