I have been talking and chatting with some of our followers and members during the last days. Corona virus has changed our everyday lives almost around the whole globe. Some parts are suffering less but in most parts of the world people are encouraged or forced to close the shops, stay at home and avoid social contacts.
Most of us are worried about our families and friends, our business, our staff and the financial, mental and social impact of this nightmare on the society.
This isn't an easy situation specially if you have to close down your business and if you are a single parent and have to manage the kidos at home. But being paralyzed by fear and staying upset and losing motivation have never helped anybody during a crisis.
The fact is:
1- Your ingredients do not get better by sitting on the shelves. If you don't use them now you'll have to discard most of them when you get back to formulating
2- This is the best time to test new ideas and test new formulations. Something most of us do not find the opportunity or time for during the everyday craze
3- There are lots of people who are working like heroes to guarantee the safety of the society during this time. These includes the health care personal, the delivery and logistic personal, the police and army, the administration staff, the guys who collect and transport our trash and all people engaged in the food chain from the farmers to the supermarket cashiers. They all have families, are probably more concerned and scared than us and despite all their fears are working day in and day out (more than before) to let the rest of us stay at home and help the world get control over this damned virus (or at least flatten the curve and slow down the infection rate)
These people are using harsh disinfectant on their hands x time per day. You can imagine how their hands are suffering under dehydration and dysbiosis of microbiome (have you asked your delivery woman or man how his hands are feeling during the last couple of days?)
They need mild and restorative skin care for the time when they are at home so that their skin can calm down, rehydrate and refat and probably rebalance the microbiome.
I shall confess this is a brilliant idea that was suggested by one of our readers and customers "Juilette" from France. Aparrently in France there is even a shortage of the usual, ordinary household soap let alone a hand sanitizer.
This is the suggestion:
Before you sink in deperation and self-sympathy, waste your time reading social media rubbish about the global shortage of toilette paper and before your ingredients expire, let's use them and use our time to create nice products that we can donate. it musn't be a 100 kg batch. Spread the kindness one bottle at a time.
You certainly know a nurse, care taker, delivery woman/man, cashier whom you can give a nice and restorative hand washing foam or refatting balm. This will do you more good than you can imagine.
During the coming weeks we are going to share simple, easy and minimalist formulations with you that you can make with the ingredients you have in your stash. No need to purchase new ingredients (although we would be happy if you do so ).
Just keep in mind:
If you are making water containing product, make sure you adjust the pH and preserve the product meticulously. Giving away an unpreserved or contaminated product will only add to the problem. If you are not confident with pH adjustment and preservation then stick to waterless products.
Who is ready to join us for "quarantine formulation challenge"?
We'll start next week. You can watch the introductory video here.
Stay safe
