What are your plans and activities of this year on global handwashing day?
Why a Global Day for Handwashing with Soap?
Handwashing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent diarrhoeal and acute respiratory
infections, which take the lives of millions of children in developing countries every year. Yet, despite its lifesaving
potential, handwashing with soap is seldom practiced and difficult to promote.
The challenge is to transform handwashing with soap from a good idea into an automatic behaviour performed in
homes, schools, and communities worldwide. A vast change in handwashing behaviour is critical to meeting the
Millennium Development Goal of reducing deaths among children under the age of five by two thirds by 2015.
Initiated in 2008 by the Global Public‐Private Partnership for Handwashing with Soap, Global Handwashing Day is
endorsed by a wide array of governments, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private
companies and individuals around the globe.(for complete information please click here).
As a responsible soap manufacturer, SkinChakra® plans several activities for children to make them acquainted with the importance of hand washing.
If you are convinced that hand washing should be discussed only in under developed countries and it is a MATTER OF FACT in our western civilized society, you're mistaken. If you don't believe me and don't believe the statistics, have a look around you the next time you're somewhere in a public rest room, in a restaurant, a theater salon or museum for example, and observe exactly how many people wash their hands with water after using the rest room.
Anyway, we have announced two workshops for kids, during which they can observe soap manufacturing (only a small scale) in our cosmetic lab (M&P soap, of course, we don't want to risk any harm caused by lye), they can select the mold, the color and fragrance for a very personal piece of soap. During the whole ceremony, the small angels are feed with information about the importance of hand washing and about the lousy unwanted guests which coexist on our skin unless we get rid of them with soap and water. To our great pleasure, the workshops are already booked up.
One song contest: Children should sing the German song of hand washing. We are thankful to Kidsweb for the kind permission to use their song. Each child who can sing that song is a winner and receives a prize, a SkinChakra® PIGGY soap.
One drawing contest: Children should send us their drawings related to hand washing and soap. Each participant receives a THANK YOU prize. The best three drawings receive a special prize.
We are specially thankful to Mobile-Weiden for their kind support in this year.
