Can you remember our chili infusion we prepared earlier?
Now it's time to prepare wonderful body melts with chili oil.
We prepared beautiful red Chili infusion in an earlier tutorial. Now we'll prepare warming body melts for cold days. This body melt with chili infusion, shea butter, cocoa butter, soy bean partially hydrogenated oil and warming essential oils of ginger and rosemary is an excellent skin care product for the whole body specially in winter days (and nights).
Caution: Chili, ginger and rosemary accelerate circulation. In case of high blood pressure consult your physician before applying these ingredients. Avoid applying chili oil in case of any skin cuts, burns and injuries. It may cause irritations. Avoid any contact of Chili and chili infused oil to mucous membrane (mouth, eyes, nostrils etc.).
Before we proceed, please have a look at our earlier posts on Basic equipment and utensil for a cosmetic lab and hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab.
Body melts are something between a butter and a massage oil. They are prepared from skin conditioning precious oils and butters but have a consistency higher than any cream or butter. In this case one should apply the body melt with a light pressure to the skin. In contact with the skin and by skin temperature and the applied pressure they melt and leave an excellent skin feel. Since you have to apply a light pressure, it's as if you combine skin care and self massage in one single step.
For this project (50 gr of body melts) you'll require:
60% cocoa butter, preferably unrefined (30 gr)
10% Soy bean oil, partially hydrogenated (melting point 38 oC) (5 gr)
0,5% Tocopherol (vitamin E) (0,25 gr)
You may need as well
a suitable mold (a silicone form is the most suitable)
a water bath
Instruction:
One: Melt cocoa butter and hydrogenated (partially) soy bean oil in a beaker in water bath. Do not let the temperature exceed 60 degrees Celsius.
Two: When cocoa butter and hydrogenated soy bean oil are melted stop heating and add shea butter, infused chili oil and Tocopherol. Stir with a glass rod while the mixture cools down.
Three: At around 50 oC add the essential oils and fill in a silicone mold with a steady hand.
Four: Let the mixture cool down. It needs up to 24 hours to reach the final consistency. Demold and keep in a cool place. Enjoy the pleasant feel and smell.
