Pistachio-Lime lip balm tutorial

You can certainly remember our "Mango kiss lip balm" tutorial a couple of weeks ago.

This is another yummy lip balm tutorial with a silky texture and smooth feel. The procedure super easy and fast.

The hops and aloe extract in this formulation act as anti-inflammatory, conditioning and nourishing ingredients, the oils and butters all protect lips against dryness, wind and cold weather and repair choppy skin. Lime essential oil is refreshing and uplifting. Avocado oil, hemp seed oil and Pistachio seed oil all impart to the beautiful green color of the balm without any colorant being applied.

Before we start I want to recommend you to read our older posts and general information regarding hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab, introduction to Basic equipment and utensil for a cosmetic lab. 

For this project (100 gr lip balm) you'll need:

11,0% Bees wax (11,0 gr)

15,0% Cocoa butter (15,0 gr)

26,0% partially hydrogenated Soybean oil (26,0 gr)

10% Coconut oil (10,0 gr)

10,0% Babassu oil (10,0 gr)

10,0% Avocado oil (10,0%)

0,5% Tocopherol (0,5 gr)

12,0% Hemp seed oil (12,0 gr)

3,0% Pistachio seed oil (3,0 gr)

1,0% lipophilic hops extract (1,0 gr) 

1,0% lipophilic aloe extract (1,0 gr)

0,5% Lime essential oil (0,5 gr) 

you'll need as well

Beakers to melt and mix the ingredients

disposable pipettes

a water bath to melt the butters

glass rods or suitable spatulas or spoons 

suitable jars to fill the balm

Here we go: 

One: in a beaker (250 ml) melt bees wax,  Cocoa butter, partially hydrogenated soy bean oil, coconut oil and babassu oil. Apply a water bath or a double boiler, avoid direct heating of butters and oils.

Two: As all solid butters and fats are melted stop heating and add all other oils and extracts (except the essential oil) under gentle stirring. If the ambient temperature is low and your butters solidify as you add liquid oils heat the mixture gently again in the water bath to melt it and gain a uniform mixture.

Three: Stir gently as the mixture cools down, at about 35 degrees centigrade add the essential oil and mix.

Four: Pour gently into jars and put the jars immediately into fridge. Let the jars stand for a couple of hours (depending the jar size it may take longer) until the whole balm solidifies to a uniform consistency.
