It's time to get ready for dry and cold autumn/winter weather...
Lips are one of the first organs that suffer under cold and windy weather conditions. Get ready for that weather and prepare your products in advance.
Here I have a super easy and fun tutorial for a yummy lip balm prepared with mango butter and mango fragrance.
Before we start I want to recommend you to read our older posts and general information regarding hygienic manufacturing practice in cosmetic lab, introduction to Basic equipment and utensil for a cosmetic lab.
For this project (100 gr lip balm) you'll need:
1,0% calendula infusion in sunflower oil (1,0 gr)
0,5% Exotic mango fragrance oil (0,5 gr)
(Optional) a pinch of annatto seed powdere
you'll need as well
Beakers to melt and mix the ingredients
a water bath to melt the butters
suitable jars to fill the balm
Disclaimer 1: I've applied a pinch of alkanet root (ground) to get this beautiful peachy color as you see in the photo. You can apply oil dispersible colorants or totally avoid any colorant. The color depends obviously on the amount of alkanet or any other colorant that you apply. Since alkanet root may act hepatotoxic or carcinogenic in high dosages, I recommend you to apply annatto seed root or another plant based colorant.
Disclaimer 2: In case of peanut allergy, increase sunflower oil concentration or apply camelina or poppy seed oil instead of peanut oil.
After a couple of hours the color would be like this:
Here we go:
One: If you're applying alkanet, prepare the color at least one day in advance. Add the sunflower oil to alkanet (or annatto seed powder) in a small beaker and stir it with a glass rod. Cover the beaker and let it stand over night. Filter the oil the next day through a tea or coffee filter.
This one is an old alkanet infusion. The longer the alkanet remains in the oil the darker would be the infusion at the end.
Two: In another beaker melt Cocoa butter, bees wax, mango butter, babassu oil and partially hydrogenated soybean oil (in a water bath and not over direct heat). Do not overheat. Water temperature should be around 70-75 degrees.
Three: After the wax and the butters are melted stop heating, add tocopherol, sunflower oil (with alkanet which you've prepared the day before), apricot kernel oil, peanut oil, calendula extract and finally mango fragrance oil. gently stir after each addition.
Four: Pour the mixture into jars and bring the jars immediately into fridge. Let the balm solidify for at least 2-3 hours.
Voila, you're done. An excellent lip balm with the yummy mango fragrance.
I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks for your visit.
