Oil of the month: Avocado oil

Without any doubt, avocado oil is my absolute favourite skin and hair care oil. If I were to be abandonned on a remote island and were allowed to only take one ingredient with me I would certainly choose avocado oil. Don't wonder why you haven't seen many tutorials from us during the last couple of years with this amazing oil. This is because organic and virgin avocado oil with an acceptable quality was not available on the market.

Now we have refilled our stock and this is why I chose avocado as our oil of the month for February 2019.

Avocado oil is one of the few oils that is directly derived from the fruit and not from the seeds or kernels. It is pressed out of dried avocado fruit and has a fresh-green scent and a dark green colour.

The main component of the oil is oleic acid (nothing fanciful about it) but a combination of palmitic, palmitoleic, linoleic and vaccenic acids makes it an amazing oil for winter care and for pampering dry and damaged hair & skin. I've seen miracles when virdin avocado oil (pure) is applied over sun damaged hair & skin.

It is certainly a heavier oil compared with perilla or jojoba oil and it doesn't vanish immediately into skin but it doesn't mean that a normal to light-greasy skin would not enjoy and profit from this oil.

Avocado oil (the virgin oil) has a low content of tocopherols: about 97 ppm alpha-tocopherol and 24 ppm gamma-tocopherol but it is enough (in addition to the low iodine value) to make it suitable for hot process.

The extraordinary healing, repairing and pampering properties are however (again, in the virgin oil) are related to the hight concentration of phytosterols (more than 3600 ppm) with this composition:
