Valentine's special: Organic Self-emulsifying bath oil
If you haven't yet made up your mind for a Valentine's special gift, you may want to try this easy self-emulsifying bath oil.
A self-emulsifying oil is an oil (oleogel) which turns to a milk by addition of water. The key ingredient is a plant based and natural (Ecocert and NaTrue certified) emulsifier.
If you have never made a self-emulsifying oleogel with Dermofeel G5O, have a look at our previous tutorials for a better understanding of this system.

We decided to use lavender dried petals and a blend of lavender, ylang-ylnag and blood orange essential oils for this bath oil. Feel free to change the petals and the essential oils according to the taste and preferences of your beloved one.
Formulation
Phase A | |
Organic Glycerine (99%) | 45.0% |
Dermofeel G5O | 5.0% |
Phase B | |
Organic apricot kernel oil | 17.0% |
Organic plum seed oil | 10.0% |
Wild crafted passion fruit oil | 10.4% |
Organic cherry kernel oil | 7.0% |
Tocopherol | 1.0% |
Rosemary CO2 extract (organic) | 0.1% |
Organic blood orange essential oil | 1.0% |
Organic Lavender oil | 1.0% |
Organic ylang-ylang oil | 0.5% |
Phase C | |
Organic dried lavender petals | 2.0% |
Procedure:
1- In a beaker blend glycerine and Dermofeel G5O . You don't need any instrument for this phase for small volumes. You can simply manage this with a spatula. If you're working with bigger batch sizes (from 2 kg ), you'll need an overhead mixer with a propeller blade at a very low speed.
2- Blend all the ingredients of phase B in another beaker
3- Slowly add phase B to phase A while stirring phase A. This is the most critical and time consuming part of the procedure. You can work with a spatula for batch sizes up to 2 kg. If you want to use any instruments, an overhead mixer is the best tool. You can manage small batches with a magnetic stirrer as well. Don't let any oil pool be formed on top of the beaker. Completely blend the oil into the glycerine / emulsifier mixture before adding the next aliquot. At the beginning, you shall add each aliquot very slowly. As you proceed, you can increase the speed. Avoid agitation to avoid formation of bubbles.
4- After all of phase B is added to A, let the oleogel stand for about 24 hours for the small bubbles to disappear and the oil to become completely transparent.
5- Fill the lavender petals in a suitable bottle and add the oil.
You can adjust the viscosity by varying the glycerine concentration. A higher glycerine concentration causes lower viscosity and a lower glycerine concentration causes higher viscosity.
