October is a month full of Halloween treats and preparations and we have something special for you if you want to create a lovely Halloween treat.
This is a simple (but not quite KISS) body butter suitable to pamper the body against cold and dry weather (at least in the Northern hemisphere) and with such a lovely orange colour and spicy scent.
Despite the high fat content (after all, this is a butter with no water phase), the skin feel is quite pleasant and non-greasy. This is achieved by adding the modified rice starch which improves the texture and skin feel and reduced the greasiness.
As always, you can either keep the butter as it is or whip it. We usually whip butters but in this case the colour and texture were so lovely that we decided to go unwhipped.

Procedure:
1- Blend phase A in a heat-proof beaker and heat it in a water bath @60-65 oC.
2- Blend all other phases separately in small beakers
Calendula CO2 extract is quite a thick paste and it is a little bit challenging to work with it (specially if your lab is cold). This is how our phase B looks like @ room temperature
You can either gently heat this phase in a water bath @ 35-40 oC or add this to the melted phase A and blend completely.
3- After phase A is melted stop heating and add phase B and C and blend completely.
4- Start cooling the butter while stirring. You can put the beaker in the fridge and stir it in 10 minute intervals.
5- None of allantoin or rice starch would dissolve in oil. You just need to disperse them uniformly to avoid clumps. Your phase D would look like this:
6- After your butter comes to a light trace add the starch phase (phase D) and continue cooling and stirring. You can start whipping at this stage if you want a whipped butter.
7- Add the essential oils (phase E) and pour the butter in a suitable jar. Put the jar for 24 hours in the fridge.
The phot in the right is the freshly prepared butter with a nice shine. The photo in the left part is the same butter after one month. The shine is slightly reduced but the colour and the texture are still quite lovely.
