Plum seed oil has a fatty acid profile similar to sweet almond oil. The main components are oleic and linoleic acid. There is a medium content of palmitic and stearic acid. Just enough to make this oil suitable for an effective coverage and barrier protection without imparting greasiness.
Apart from a rather modest fatty acid profile the oil contains high concentrations of phytosterols, beta-sitosterol (815 ppm) and delta-5-avenasterol (75 ppm) as well as alpha- and gamma- tocopherol (79 and 612 ppm respectively).
This means, despite the medium Iodine value, you can gently heat the oil and use it in hot process if you do not heat the oil for a long period.
Neither the fatty acid profile nor the content of tocopherols and phytosterols are unique among plant oils. What makes this oil a unique and outstanding oil is its scent. You feel like you're in the middle of a huge orchard in a hot summer day, plucking plums from the tree and putting them into your basket (and munching every second plum and hiding the kernel in your pocket ). The scent is simple divine (this is just with the unrefined and virgin oil). Try it yourself.
Happy announcement: We're adding a plum butter to our portfolio. This is a real plum butter made of 50% plum oil and 50% hydrogenated plum oil. The butter has an even more intensive scent and it is more resistant to oxidation and heating. Keep an eye on our channels to be informed when the butter arrives.
Enjoy the August .
BeHappy and have fun
