Some of you have asked us for a formulation sample for a mild facial cleansing milk and here we are. This is a basic and KISS formulation as a starter. You can decorate it by adding plant extracts and other ingredients of your choice but it is quite effective and pleasant as it is.
When making a gentle cleansing product, it is important to find the right balance between the "creaminess" and the cleansing/foaming. You don't need a ton of oils and butters in a cleansing product because you need a silky but not greasy feel after rinsing/wiping. On the other hand, you'll need just a little bit of surfactants for the cleansing/foaming. A cream cleanser shall not foam like a shampoo. It's enough when you have a gentle foam during rinsing. Keep in mind that the oil and the foam are antagonists. The more oil content, the less foam you'll have in the final product.
Anyway, this is a cream cleanser with a very low content of oil. You'll even have the creamy appearance if you don't use any oil and just add the emulsifier to the water but since I know all of you want to add some oil or at least CO2 extracts, I added 3,0% of plum oil to the formulation.
The procedure is rather straightforward and almost like all other formulations with Plantasens HE20.
If you have not yet worked with Plantasens HE20 have a look at our previous blog posts before you proceed with this tutorial:

to adjust the pH |
Procedure:
1- Disperse Solagum AX in water @RT.
2- Add plantasens HE20 to the beaker and put the beaker in a water bath @70-75 oC.
3- Stir during heating till all of plantasens melts and the beaker content turns into a milky appearance.
4- Remove from the bath and homogenize for a couple of minutes.
5- Start stirring the content as the beaker cools down. Add phase B and stir further.
6- Blend all the ingredients in phase C. Gradually and under slow stirring (you want to avoid foam and air bubbles) add the surfactant phase (phase C) to the milk (A+B)
7- Add the preservative (Spectrastat G2N ) and the essential oils and blend.
8- Make a 10% dilution and measure the pH. In our case it was 6,50
9- Add lactic acid to reduce the pH. the preservative we are using is one of the few natural preservative with a pH-independent performance but still we want the pH of the milk to be between 5-5,5.
10- After the pH is adjusted take your stability and micro kit samples and transfer the rest to a suitable container.
11- The viscosity of this milk is suitable for a pump bottle or a screw cap/ disc top bottle. Enjoy the skin feel and the scent of this mild cleansing milk.
